America: How the Coronavirus Outbreak Has and Hasn’t Changed Work

Image
In the article, "How the Coronavirus Outbreak Has – and Hasn’t – Changed the Way Americans Work" by Kim Parker, Juliana Menasce Horowitz and Rachel Minkin of Pew Research Center, it goes over the many changes the pandemic has brought on to the American workforce and also how some things haven't changed. I found it interesting because most articles are only ever highlighting the drastic changes and not what has stayed the same as well. One key point I want to mention is how lower income workers' jobs are not often able to be done at home via the Internet. This puts more of a strain on already poorer people, risking either their paycheck or their health. Higher paid workers had a more easy transition being that many of their jobs can easily be done from home. Below is picture from the article the showcases teleworking stats. I recommend giving it a read. How Coronavirus Has Changed the Way Americans Work | Pew Research Center Has the pandemic grossly changed the way you...

Italy: COVID-19 Health Passes Mandatory For All Workers

In the article, "Italy Is Making COVID-19 Health Passes Mandatory For All Workers" by Jonathan Franklin and Sylvia Poggioli of NPR News, it goes over how Italy is the first European country to enforce COVID-19 health passes for its workers. Failure to have a health pass showing that you're vaccinated results in suspension but does not result in being fired. America has mandates for nearly 2/3rds of all employees but not a full on country wide mandate. Italy's high COVID-19 death numbers caused this big decision. Here is the article link below, I recommend to give it more of a look. Italy Requires All Employees To Show Proof Of Vaccination : Coronavirus Updates : NPR Do you feel this a good move by Italy and do you think that America should do this as well?

COVID-19: Staying Safe at Work

This week I want to touch on and suggest a YouTube video that was posted in the prime of the pandemic last year. It is titled "COVID-19: Staying Safe at Work" by the channel JPLraw. In the video, it goes over the main techniques workplaces have used to combat COVID-19. It's goal is to inform and protect people from not only getting sick themselves but from spreading the virus to more vulnerable individuals. Even though most people are vaccinated and have heard over and over again how to distance and stay safe, this video is still a good refresher for those that may be going into a more close quarters working environment with many jobs opening back up to normal recently. Having the vaccine only does so much, continuing to practice safe techniques along with being vaccinated is the best way to go about things. Unemployment: lowest since the start of the pandemic

This is the first post of my blog documenting the many different aspects of working in America and how that changed during the COVID-19 pandemic. I want to start on good note with a positive article because I know I will be going over many more depressing pieces of media concerning this main topic over the coming months. In the article titled, "Jobless claims total 340,000, lowest level since early days of pandemic," by Thomas Franck of CNBC, it goes over how unemployment in America is affecting the economy in a good way since it's the lowest it's been since March 2020. I recommend giving it a quick read and glancing at the graphs in the article that showcase the rise in jobs over the last year. Jobless claims total 340,000, lowest level since early in pandemic (cnbc.com) Are you confident that unemployment will keep up this winning streak or do you think the new Delta variant of the virus will shake things up?
